Since the KabarA Challenge began, we honor every Brother who has entered eternal life. Their combined centuries of service shaped countless lives across the Lasallian mission.
Born 1942 in St. Paul, MN. Graduated from Cretin H.S. and entered the Christian Brothers' Novitiate in Glencoe, MO. Earned a BA and MS from Saint Mary's University (Winona, MN). Taught Biology at DeLaSalle H.S. in Minneapolis for 42 years - a member of the DeLaSalle Hall of Fame. Also taught at Cretin H.S. (St. Paul), Lourdes H.S. (Oshkosh, WI), and Christian Brothers College (Memphis, TN). Retired in 2011.
Born 1933 in Evanston, IL. Graduated from St. George H.S. and entered the novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1951. Earned degrees from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and Loyola University Chicago. Taught at St. Joseph H.S. (Westchester) and St. Patrick H.S. (Chicago). Served at Christian Brothers Conference in Romeoville and Landover, MD. Was Director of the De La Salle Auxiliary (1993-2011) and Director of the C.B. Center community in Romeoville (1995-2001). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 64 years.
Born 1926 in Chicago, IL. Graduated from St. Mel H.S. and entered the Christian Brothers' Novitiate in Glencoe, MO. Earned degrees from St. Mary's University (Winona), St. Catherine College (St. Paul), and Dominican University (River Forest, IL). Served at schools in Chicago, Westchester, Jefferson City, Kansas City, and St. Louis Park, MN. For many years served as librarian and archivist at Lewis University (Romeoville, IL), retiring in 2007. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 70 years.
Born 1925 in Oak Park, IL (birth name James Cletus McDonald). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 71 years. Died October 4, 2015 at Bronzeville Park Center in Chicago, IL.
Born 1926 in Minneapolis, MN. A WWII veteran, he entered the Brothers' Novitiate in 1950. Served as founding principal of Roncalli H.S. (Manitowoc, WI, 1965-1973) and twice as principal of De La Salle H.S. in Minneapolis. Also served as Provincial of the Winona Province. From 1984 until his death in 2015, served in multiple roles at Bethlehem University in the Holy Land, including Academic Vice President and Financial Vice President. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 65 years.
Born 1933 in New Iberia, LA. Graduated from Phillis Wheatley High School in Houston, TX. Served in the U.S. Navy 1951-1955, earning the National Defense Service Medal and European Occupation Medal. Entered the De La Salle Brothers' Novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1957 and professed vows in 1963. Earned a BA from St. Mary's University (Winona, MN). Taught in various schools across the United States. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 58 years.
Born 1928 (known as Brother Nick). Entered religious life in 1946. Served in Nicaragua for six years alongside Blessed Brother James Miller, and also in Stevens Point, WI; Minneapolis, MN; Escanaba, MI; Nairobi, Kenya; and Sangre de Cristo, NM. A gifted woodworker - his renderings of the District logo grace community houses across the Midwest. Also skilled in cross-stitching, needlepoint, and weaving. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 71 years.
Born September 22, 1953 in Memphis, TN. Earned a BS from Christian Brothers College (Memphis) and an M.Ed. from the University of Memphis. Entered the Novitiate in Windsor, Ontario in 1979. Served at Roncalli High School (Omaha), O'Hara High School (Kansas City), St. Mary High School (Paducah), Bishop Kelley High School (Tulsa, 1985-1996 and 2004-2016), and Christian Brothers College High School (St. Louis, 1996-2004). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 37 years.
Born 1943 in Winona, MN. Entered the novitiate in 1964. Taught and directed the school band at Roncalli High School (Manitowoc, WI, 1967-1976). Served multiple times in Ethiopia at St. Joseph School and the Gebre Mikael Center, and in Kenya at the De La Salle Postulancy and Scholasticate. Also served at Pacelli H.S. (Stevens Point, WI) and Cretin-Derham Hall (St. Paul). Known for reaching out quietly to those most in need. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 52 years.
Born 1936 in St. Louis, MO. Graduated from Cretin H.S. in St. Paul and entered the De La Salle Brothers' Novitiate in 1954. Earned a BA and MA from Saint Mary's University (Winona). Joined Saint Mary's Press in 1958 and spent more than 50 years there, serving as President (1974-2001) and CEO (2001-2004). Instrumental in founding Fe y Vida, a ministry serving young Hispanics in the U.S. and Latin America. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 61 years.
Born 1931 in Chicago, IL (birth name Frank Joseph Murphy). Graduated from St. George H.S. in Evanston. Earned a BA and MA from Saint Mary's College (Winona, MN). Entered the novitiate of the Christian Brothers in 1951 in Glencoe, MO. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 66 years. Died December 15, 2017 at Alexian Brothers Hospice Home in Elk Grove Village, IL.
Born 1938 in St. Paul, MN (birth name Kevin John Ryan). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 61 years. Died August 20, 2017 at Lambert Hall at Christian Brothers University in Memphis, TN.
Born 1936 in Chicago, IL. Attended St. George H.S. in Evanston and entered the novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1955. Earned a BA from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN). Taught in Indiana, Illinois, and Guatemala. Served as counselor at La Salle Manor Retreat Center (Plano, IL, 1979-1988) and as administrator at Dunrovin Retreat Center (Marine-on-St. Croix, MN, 1991-1998). Born 1931 in St. Paul, MN (birth name William J. Eibert). Attended Cretin H.S. and earned a BS and MA from Saint Mary's University (Winona, MN). Entered the novitiate in 1949 in Glencoe, MO. Taught in Evanston, IL; Minneapolis and St. Paul, MN. Served as assistant principal at schools in Minneapolis and Appleton, WI. Born March 22, 1940 in Chicago, IL (birth name Michael Regis Flaherty). Earned a BA from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN) and an MA from Roosevelt University in Chicago. Taught and administered at Lasallian ministries in Kansas, Illinois, and Montana. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 60 years. Died December 3, 2019 in Chicago.
Born 1933 in Minneapolis, MN. Graduated from Cretin H.S. and entered the novitiate in 1952 in Glencoe, MO. Earned a BA from Saint Mary's University (Winona, MN) and an MRE from Loyola University Chicago. Taught in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa. From 1996 to 2006 served in Brothers' formation programs in Addis Ababa and Nazareth, Ethiopia, and in Rongai, Kenya. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 65 years.
Born 1944 in Omaha, NE. A gifted teacher of geography known for storytelling, singing, accordion playing, and dance - remembered for instituting "Mom Proms" at all-boys high schools. Earned his Ed.D. from the University of San Francisco and moved into higher education and administration in his later career. Remained a member of the Midwest District throughout his life while making his home in the San Francisco Bay Area. Died 2019 in Napa, CA.
Born 1939 in St. Louis, MO. Entered the novitiate in 1957 in Glencoe, MO. Earned degrees from Saint Mary's University of Minnesota and St. Louis University. Served at high schools in Chicago, Minneapolis, Tulsa, Galesburg, St. Louis, Jefferson City, Washington DC, Cincinnati, and Kansas City. Also served the refugee community in St. Louis and overseas in Ethiopia and Thailand. A lover of the arts and an adventurous traveler.
Born May 16, 1940 in Waukon, IA (birth name Leo Loda Jones). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 62 years. Died December 1, 2020 in Bolingbrook, IL.

Born May 10, 1926 in Iowa City, IA (birth name Gerald James Marshall). Earned a BSS and MA from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN). Taught at Lasallian ministries in Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, the West Indies, and Nigeria. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 73 years.

Earned a BS and M.Ed. from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN), an MS from Loyola University Chicago, and a Ph.D. from the University of Windsor (Ontario). Born August 28, 1950 (birth name Mark Edward McVann). Earned a BS from Moorhead State University (MN), an MA from Loyola University Chicago, and a Ph.D. from Emory University (Atlanta, GA). Taught at Lasallian ministries including Lewis University (IL) and St. Mary's College (Moraga, CA). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 47 years.
Born October 12, 1942 (birth name Richard Casimir Paszkiet). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 60 years. Died March 23, 2020 in Willowbrook, IL.
Born June 24, 1940 in St. Louis, MO (birth name Howard T. Geraghty). Earned a BS and M.Ed. from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN) and an Ed.S. from Southwest Missouri State University. Taught and administered at Lasallian ministries in IL, KY, MO, OH, TN, OK, MS, and MN. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 62 years.
Born September 18, 1944 in Stevens Point, WI (birth name Stanley John Wozniak). Earned a BA from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN), an MA from North Dakota State University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas, Austin. Taught and administered at Lasallian ministries in North Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota, and Tennessee. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 58 years.
Born July 11, 1940 in Buffalo, NY (birth name Arthur Edwin Brutcher). A De La Salle Christian Brother for 62 years. Earned a BS from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and an MA from Emmanuel College (Boston, MA). Taught and administered at Lasallian ministries in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Oklahoma, and Tennessee. As a recipient of two kidney transplants, he donated his body to the University of Minnesota Medical School to support organ donation awareness.
Earned a BA and M.Ed. from Saint Mary's College (Winona, MN). Taught at Totino Grace High School (Fridley, MN). Served as principal at Roncalli High School (Manitowoc, WI) before returning to Totino Grace High School, where he served as president from 1987 to 2011. Received the Monsignor John F. Meyers Award in 2010 for his support of Catholic education on the national level.
Born 1932 in Chicago, IL. After early teaching in Chicago and Vincennes, IN, spent decades in international mission - in Nicaragua, Chile, Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, and Rome. Served the De La Salle Postulancy in Rongai, Kenya; was Delegation President of the East African Delegation (1991); and served on the SIEL-CIL staff in Rome. Also served as Director of Senior Brothers for the Midwest District. Died June 12, 2021 at age 89, a De La Salle Christian Brother for 71 years.

Faithfully served for 74 years across numerous institutions including La Salle Institute (Glencoe, MO), St. George High School (Evanston, IL), Helias High School (Jefferson City, MO), De La Salle Institute (Chicago, IL), and CBC High School (St. Louis, MO). Final years at St. Paul's House in Chicago.
Became a Christian Brother in 1957. Served at St. Patrick High School and St. Paul High School (Chicago, IL), Sangre de Cristo Retreat Center (Santa Fe, NM), and the Catholic Schools Office of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Studied in Paris and at Centro Internazionale Lasalliano in Rome.

Pronounced Perpetual Vows in Beaver Island, MI on June 24, 1959. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 69 years. Died August 23, 2022 at Resurrection Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Born April 4, 1932 in St. Louis, MO (birth name Robert Ignatius Brown). Entered the novitiate of the Christian Brothers in 1950 in Glencoe, MO. Earned a B.S. and M.Ed. from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN) and a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1979. A De La Salle Christian Brother for 72 years. Died July 4, 2022 at Methodist Memorial in Memphis, TN.

Born 1936 (birth name Dennis Pelzel Jacobson). Entered the Novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1954 and received the religious name of Andrew. Pronounced Perpetual Vows in Plano, IL in 1961. Taught in various high schools and universities in Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, and Wisconsin, as well as in the Philippines and the West Indies. Retired from teaching in 2016 and became a resident of the Little Sisters of the Poor in St. Paul, MN.
Dedicated Christian Brother for nearly 75 years teaching Spanish, Religion, and English. Served at institutions across the U.S. including St. Mel High School (Chicago, IL), CBC High School (St. Louis, MO), Christian Brothers High School (Memphis, TN), and multiple schools in Guatemala, New Jersey, New York, and Oklahoma. Retained a lifelong devotion to the mission of the Church in Latin America.
Entered the Christian Brothers in 1957. Served at De La Salle Institute (Chicago, IL) and spent years in Italy including Casa San Genesio and Rosary College's Villa Schifanoia campus in Florence. Spent final years at the Marshall Street Residence in Minnesota.
A master liturgist who spent nearly 40 years serving St. Cecilia Cathedral (Omaha, NE) as chief liturgist for the Archdiocese. Created the Cathedral Arts program. His vision transformed worship spaces across the country including the Cathedral Basilica of Our Lady of Peace (Honolulu, HI). The icon of the Founder displayed internationally was his creation.
Dedicated Christian Brother for 77 years. Earned multiple advanced degrees including a DMin and STD. One of seven original Brothers to arrive at Lewis College in 1960. Served 51 years on campus as Dean of Students, Chair of Religious Studies, and Professor in the Theology Department.
Born 1935 in Chicago, IL, raised at St. Hedwig Orphanage and Mercy Boys' Home. Graduated from St. Patrick High School (1955) and entered the Christian Brothers' Novitiate in 1956. Earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from St. Mary's University, DePaul University, and Loyola University Chicago. Served in Brothers' schools in Minneapolis, Kansas City, Chicago, Lansing, Romeoville, and Manitowac before settling at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, TN (1995-2024). An avid runner, artist, and guitar player.
Born 1946 in Evanston, IL. Entered the Brothers' Novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1964. Earned a BA from Lewis College and MA degrees from Michigan State and Northwestern Universities. Served as Principal of De La Salle Institute in Chicago (1978-1983) and Director of Catholic Secondary Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago. Spent 30 years at Christian Brothers Investment Services (CBIS), serving as President and CEO from 1990 to 2017. Received an Honorary Doctorate from Lewis University in 2002.
Taught in the Theatre Department at Saint Mary's University from 2001-2014. Served at Bethlehem University in Palestine from 1995-2000, schools in the Twin Cities and Stevens Point, WI, and directed retreats at Dunrovin in Marine on St. Croix, MN. Earned his Doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
Served at Bergan High School (Peoria, IL), Christian Brothers College High School (St. Louis, MO), Rummel High School (Peoria, IL), Bishop Kelley High School (Tulsa, OK), Lewis University (Romeoville, IL), La Salle University (Philadelphia, PA), and Gwynedd Mercy University. Retired to Ft. Thomas, Kentucky.
Born 1935 in Lombard, IL. Entered the De La Salle Brothers' Novitiate in 1953. Taught at Christian Brothers College High School (St. Louis), De La Salle High School (Minneapolis), and La Salle High School (Cincinnati). Served as Assistant Provincial, on the Student Life staff at Notre Dame (1975-1981), and as Director of Dunrovin Retreat Center (1981-1985). Spent many years at Saint Mary's Press (Winona). Died December 13, 2025 at age 90, having served 72 years of religious life.
Entered the Novitiate in 1956 in Glencoe, Missouri. Served at Christian Brothers High School (St. Joseph, MO), St. Francis High School (Wheaton, IL), La Salle High School (Cincinnati, OH), Bishop Gallagher High School (Harper Woods, MI), and Lewis University. Spent retirement at La Salle Community and Franciscan Village (Lemont, IL).
Made his Novitiate in 1991-92 in Skaneateles, New York. Taught writing and served in writing labs at St. Mary's University, Lewis University, and New Mexico State University (Las Cruces, NM), as well as at CBC High School in St. Louis and Roncalli High School in Manitowoc, WI. Known for his sharp editorial eye and his generous service to students. Died February 25, 2025.
Born Gerald Lecuyer in Bourbonnais, IL in 1931. Entered the De La Salle Brothers' Novitiate in Glencoe, MO in 1953. Earned master's degrees from St. Mary's University (Winona), George Peabody College, and Immaculate Conception Seminary. Served as Principal and Director at Christian Brothers College High School in St. Louis (1963-1969). Later served as librarian at St. Mary's University (Winona), Aquinas Institute (St. Louis), and the University of St. Mary of the Lake (Mundelein, IL).
Earned his Ph.D. in Education from Saint Louis University. Taught at St. George High School (Evanston, IL), Price Catholic High School (Amarillo, TX), La Salle High School (Cincinnati, OH), Christian Brothers High School (Memphis, TN), and O'Hara High School (Kansas City, MO). Retired in Westmont and Chicago, IL.
Born 1922 in Duluth, MN. Entered religious life in 1938. Made history in 1963 integrating Christian Brothers High School in Memphis - the first all-white high school in the city to do so. Served as President of Christian Brothers College (Memphis), Principal of Montini High School (Lombard, IL), and Director of Education for the Chicago Province. Received honorary doctorates from Lewis University and St. Mary's University of Minnesota. Died at 102, a De La Salle Christian Brother for 84 years.
Dedicated Christian Brother for 70 years. Began teaching at Saint Patrick's High School (Chicago, IL) and continued with assignments at Hill High School and Hill-Murray High School (Maplewood, MN), and multiple De La Salle institutions in the Philippines including Manila, Muntinlupa, and Malabon.
Born 1931 in Randolph, NE. Served in the U.S. Army in Korea before entering the De La Salle Brothers' Novitiate in 1954. Earned a BA and M.Ed. from St. Mary's College (Winona, MN). Taught at De La Salle Academy (Kansas City), Benilde High School, and Christian Brothers High School (Memphis). Held administrative roles at Roncalli H.S., CBC High School, La Salle High School, and Christian Brothers University. Volunteered at The Church Health Center in Memphis from 1999 to 2025.
