His Story

Rob Veselsky was fifteen years old when he first met the De La Salle Christian Brothers — and what he found in them was something he wanted for himself. It wasn't doctrine or discipline that drew him in. It was joy. It was happiness. These were men who seemed genuinely content in the life they had chosen, and the fifteen-year-old Rob wanted to understand what that was about.

He went home and asked his parents if he could join the Brothers. They said yes — though, as Br. Rob tells it with characteristic honesty, they likely said so without ever expecting he would stay.

He stayed. Decades later, Br. Rob remains one of the most recognizable figures in the Lasallian community, having served at Christian Brothers University and beyond, where his kindness and warmth have drawn students and alumni to appreciate not just the Brothers' work but the Brothers themselves. His life is a quiet argument for the proposition that joy, freely given, is one of the most persuasive things in the world.
