His Story

Mark Engelmeyer came to the Christian Brothers through a process of discernment that he has described as something like a roller coaster — full of highs and lows, twists and turns, experiences that vary depending on where you sit in the cart. What steadied him through that ride was, in part, the witness of senior Brothers who had navigated the same terrain before him.

Among those mentors, Brother Milton Barker holds a special place. Whenever Br. Mark found himself visiting the Twin Cities, he looked forward to time with Brother Milton, whose quiet wisdom and settled spirit were always a source of nourishment. "I always enjoyed visiting with him," Br. Mark recalls, with the simple warmth of a man describing something genuinely good.

Br. Mark made his first vows in 2018 alongside fellow novices Brothers Dylan Perry and Matthew Kotek — part of a new generation of Midwest District Brothers finding their footing in the Lasallian mission. He has served at Christian Brothers High School in Memphis, teaching and accompanying young people in the tradition established by Saint John Baptist de La Salle.
